Explain blood typing (antigens v. antibodies)
Type A: Has A-antigens, anti-B antibodies. Cannot receive B blood.
Type B: Has B-antigens, anti-A antibodies. Cannot receive A blood.
Type AB: Has both antigens, no antibodies. "Universal Recipient".
Type O: No antigens, both anti-A/anti-B antibodies. "Universal Donor".
Warfarin lab values?
PT/INR → Extrinsic pathway → Goal = 2-3
Heparin lab values?
PTT → Intrinsic → 25-35 seconds
Cause + key features of Iron Deficiency Anemia?
Cause:
Blood loss (most common)
Poor intake
Key features:
Fatigue + pallor
Spoon nails
Pica sometimes (craving ice) (not in slide but commonly tested)
