Descriptive Cross-sectional studies
A study type where the primary measure of frequency is Prevalence (point or period).
Descriptive Longitudinal studies
A study type where the measures of frequency are Cumulative Incidence and Incidence rate (person-time).
Analytical Observational Cross-sectional studies
A study type where the measure of association is the Prevalence ratio.
Ecological studies
A study type where frequency is measured by Prevalence (point or period) and Cumulative Incidence, while association is measured by Prevalence ratio and Incidence rate ratio/risk ratio.
Case-control studies
A study type where the measure of association is the Odds ratio of exposure.
Cohort studies
A study type where measures of association include Risk ratio, Rate ratio (person-time), and Odds ratio.
Randomised controlled trials
An experimental study type where measures of association (based on intention to treat) are Risk ratio and Rate ratio (person-time).
Community or cluster trials
An experimental study type where measures of association (based on intention to treat) include Risk ratio and Rate ratio (person-time).
