Peripheral nervous system
nervous system made up of all the nerves that lie outside the spinal cord and the brain.
Somatic nervous system
made up of nerves that connect to voluntary skeletal muscles and sensory receptors
Efferent nerve fibres
Axons that carry signals from the CNS body to the periphery of the body
Afferent nerve fibres
Axons that carry information into the CNS from the periphery of the body
sympathetic nervous system
Mobilises the body’s recourses for emergencies (fight or flight)
Parasympathetic nervous system
Responsible for conserving bodily resources (rest and digestion)
Central nervous system
consists of the brain and spinal cord
