Stonewall Riots
A series of protests and violent clashes that began on June 28, 1969, after police raided the Stonewall Inn, a popular gay bar in New York City. Members of the LGBTQ+ community, who were frequently targeted by discrimination and police harassment, fought back against the raid, leading to several nights of demonstrations, street confrontations, and activism in the surrounding area. The riots became a turning point in the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement because they inspired the formation of new activist organizations and encouraged more public demands for equal rights and social acceptance. One year later, activists held the first Pride marches to commemorate the Stonewall Riots, and the event remains a major symbol of LGBTQ+ resistance and civil rights activism.

Gay Pride March (from film)
The first gay pride march was held in 1970 to commemorate the anniversary of the Stonewall Riots and to demand equal rights and visibility for LGBTQ+ people. The original marches took place in cities like New York City, Chicago, and Los Angeles, where thousands of people gathered to protest discrimination and celebrate identity. These events were inspired by the activism that emerged after the Stonewall uprising at the Stonewall Inn and marked a shift from quiet resistance to open, public demonstrations for LGBTQ+ rights. Over time, Pride marches grew into annual global events celebrating LGBTQ+ culture while continuing to advocate for legal equality, social acceptance, and protections against discrimination.
Stonewall In (From film)
The Stonewall Inn was a gay bar located in New York City that became famous as the site of the 1969 Stonewall Riots, a major turning point in the LGBTQ+ rights movement. During the 1960s, many LGBTQ+ people faced discrimination, and bars like the Stonewall Inn served as important social spaces where they could gather more freely. On June 28, 1969, police raided the bar, but instead of quietly dispersing, patrons and community members resisted, leading to several nights of protests and clashes with police. The Stonewall Inn later became a symbol of LGBTQ+ activism, pride, and the fight for equal rights in the United States.
