What is the FIM?
Outcome measure that measures the level of a patient's disability and indicates how much assistance is required for the individual to carry out activities of daily living.
Level 1
total assistance, patient performs <25% of the effort
Level 2
Maximal assistance, patient performs 25-49% of effort
Level 3
Moderate assistance, patient performs 50-74% of effort
Level 4
Minimal assistance, patient performs greater than 75% of th effort
Level 5
Supervision, patient requires verbal cues, setup, or stand by
Level 6
Modified independence, patient requires assistive or adaptive device
Level 7
Complete independence
