Microscopic examination of tissues for signs of disease.
Cytology
Study of structure and function of cells.
Ultrastructure
View of molecular detail under an electron microscope.
Inspection
Looking at the appearance of structures.
Palpation
Feeling a structure with the hands.
Auscultation
Listening to sounds produced by the body.
Percussion
Tapping on the body to feel for resistance and listen for abnormalities.
Dissection
Cutting and separating human body tissues to reveal tissue relationships.
Comparative Anatomy
Study of multiple species to examine structural similarities and differences.
Exploratory Surgery
Opening the living body to see what is wrong.
Radiology
Branch of medicine specializing in imaging.
Homeostasis
The ability to maintain stable internal conditions.
Negative Feedback
Mechanisms that oppose change to maintain homeostasis.
Positive Feedback
A self-amplifying cycle that leads to greater change in the same direction.
Gradient
Difference in concentration, charge, temperature, or pressure between two points.
Anatomical Position
A reference posture that allows for standardized anatomical terminology.
Anatomical Planes
Imaginary lines used to describe the orientation of tissues or sections.
Body Cavities
Openings in the body that are enclosed by membranes, holding and protecting organs.
Serous Membranes
Membranes that line body cavities, consisting of visceral and parietal layers.
