Megalopsychia
“Greatness of the soul”. The audience roots for characters that are like this as they contain both good and bad aspects around them, making their loss a major turning point.
Hamartia
Error of judgement - the action , e.g Romeo killing himself after thinking Juliet is dead
Tragic Flaw
A character trait or flaw that leads to the downfall of a protagonist in a tragedy, often related to their decisions or actions. e.g Romeo’s tragic flaw is that he is impatient so he doesn’t wait for the messenger nor for Juliet, leading in both of them dieing.
Hubris
Excessive pride or self-confidence, often leading to a downfall. In tragedies, hubris typically results in a character defying the gods or disregarding moral codes.
Peripetia
A sudden reversal or change in circumstances in a story, especially in a tragedy, often leading to the protagonist's downfall. E.g when Romeo kills Tibalt and is exiled
Anaganorisis
Protaginists’ moment of realisation, transition from ignorance to knowledge e.g when Juliet wakes up and sees Romeo dead.

Fatal disaster that end the play
