Formal Qualifications for President
Be a citizen of the United States, be at least 35 years old on Inauguration Day, and have been a resident of the US for at least 14 years.
Informal Qualifications for President
Goverment experience, financial resources for campaigning, leadership skills, understanding of the American people, communication skills, ability to act or not act, and willingness to compromise.

The role of the president in managing foreign relations and treaties, requiring a two-thirds approval from the Senate.
Commander in Chief
The role of the president as the final authority over all branches of the military.
War Powers Act
Legislation requiring the president to seek Congressional approval to use military troops in hostile actions lasting more than 60 days.
Chief Legislator
The president's ability to initiate and influence major legislation in Congress.
Chief of Party
The president's role as the leader of their political party, influencing party actions and policies.
Chief Citizen
The expectation for the president to represent all citizens and embody democratic ideals.
