What is a moment?
The rotational or turning effect of a force.
What is the pivot?
The central point or hinge around which an object rotates.
What is the formula for a moment?
Moment = Force x Perpendicular Distance.
What are the units for a moment?
Newton-meters (Nm).
Why is 'perpendicular' distance important?
Because the turning effect is only maximized when the force is applied at a right angle to the pivot distance.
When is a seesaw perfectly balanced?
When the total clockwise moment is exactly equal to the total anticlockwise moment.
