What is the difference between primary and secondary immunodeficiency?
Primary = genetic disorder (congenital); Secondary = acquired (from infection like HIV, malnutrition, radiation, drugs, etc.)
What is SCID?
Severe Combined Immunodeficiency – most serious form, dysfunction in both B and T lymphocyte systems.
How is SCID treated for long-term survival?
Replacement of lymphoid cells (fetal liver or stem cell grafts).
List three causes of secondary immunodeficiency.
Infections (AIDS), nutrition deficiencies, stress, pregnancy, aging, irradiation, severe burns, steroids, immunosuppressive drugs, splenectomy (any three).
