Alexandrine
A line of poetry that has 12 syllables
Blank verse
Poetry written in unrhymed iambic pentameter - shakespeare worte most of his plays in blank verse
Cadence
Rhythmic or musical elements of a poem
As opposed ot metre which is the regular elements of rhythm
Cdence includes momentary variations in rhythm eg speeding up / down
Caesura
A natural pause or break in a line of poetry - usually near middle of the line
Consonance
Repitition of similar consonent sounds especially at hte ends of words
Couplet
A pair of lines un a poem - same length and usually rhyme
They form a complete thought
End stopped line
A pause at the end of a line of poetry marked by punctuation
Enjambment
Run - on lines
Continuation of a complete idea from one line
Incremental repetition
Repitition of lines from stanza to stanza with small byt crucial changes

The organisation of a poem into lines
