High Renaissance
represented a culmination and a convergence of talent. style of italian renaissance art abd architecture characterized by emphasis on draftsmanship, the illusion of sculptural volume in painting and in building. its capital was scattered in milan, florence and rome
leonardo da vinci
1452-1519. best known as a florentine painter, but everything else as well. attempted to unite science ith art. used sfumato. famous for monalisa, the last supper and madonna of the rocks.

michelangelo buonarotti
1475-1564. trained in florence and is best known as a painter and sculptor, but worked in architecture and wrote poetry as well. used the knowledge to glorify god. he created a styke which laid the foundation for baroque-mannerism. sistine chapel ceiling, the holy family, statue of david (adult), pieta, the deposition, the last judgement, moses, creation of adam.
he saw painting as the lowest form of art and preferred sculpture instead
raphael or rafaello sanzio
1483-1520. trained in umbria but studied in florence. best known as a painter but worked in architecture as well. oaineted beautiful, gentle, calm women in a courteous manner.

most famous of the venetian renaissance painters. famous for his works tempest and sleeping venus

leader of the 16th century venetian school of the italian renaissance. his famous works include assumption of the virgin (assunta), the rape of europa, venus of urbino and coronation
Albrecht durer
german painter known as LEONARDO OF THE NORTH. he produced more than a thousand woodcuts and engravings. famous works include apocalyps, st. jerome in his study, 4 apostles, adam and eve
pieter bruegel the elder
greatest flemish painter of the 16th c. flemish/dutch renaissance painter and printmaker known for hid landscapes and peasant scenes. he was a member of an affluent family but immersed his self with the poor.
