Tubercle
A small rounded process, projection or protuberance, especially on a bone, used for the function of connecting ligaments to muscle.
Articulation
A joint; an area where two bones are attached for the purpose of motion of body parts.
Tuberosity
A rough area or protrusion on a bone.
Condyle
A rounded protuberance at the end of some bones, forming an articulation with another bone.
Pectoral Girdle
Supports the arms and links them to the axial skeleton; consists of the clavicle (collar bone) and scapula (shoulder blade).
Sternoclavicular joint
The articulation between the sternum and the clavicle.
Acromioclavicular joint
The articulation between the scapula and the clavicle.
Glenohumeral joint
The articulation between the scapula and the humerus.
Sternal end of the clavicle
The rounded end of the clavicle.
Acromial end of the clavicle
The flatter end of the clavicle.
Scapula
A triangular plate that covers over ribs 2 through 7 and glides over the posterior rib cage.
Glenoid Cavity
The structure of the scapula that articulates with the head of the humerus.
Coracoid process
A structure on the scapula that provides attachment for the tendons of the biceps brachii.
Brachium
The upper arm region containing the humerus bone.
Surgical Neck
A groove between the head and shaft on the proximal side of the humerus; often the site of breaks.
Capitulum
The lateral smooth circular shaped condyle of the humerus that articulates with the radius.
Trochlea
The medial smooth pulley like shaped condyle of the humerus that articulates with the ulna.
Radial tuberosity
The attachment point on the radius for the tendon of the biceps brachii.
Interosseous membrane
A fibrous membrane that connects the radius to the ulna and the tibia to the fibula along most of the shaft of each bone.
Manus
The hand, which contains 27 bones including 8 carpals, 5 metacarpals, and 14 phalanges.
Acetabulum
The hip socket where the femur articulates with the pelvic girdle.
Obturator foramen
An opening in the pelvic girdle that is closed over by a ligament.
Greater Trochanter
A rough process near the neck of the femur that serves as an attachment site for hip muscles.
Tibia
The weight bearing bone of the crural region.
Fibula
A bone in the crural region that supports the ankle.
Medial Malleolus
The ankle bone of the tibia.
Lateral Malleolus
The ankle bone of the fibula.
Tarsal Region
The ankle, consisting of 7 tarsal bones.
