Overweight

Adipose Tissue

Energy Output

Basal Metabolism

Excess accumulation of fat in the abdominal area, associated with higher health risks.
Waist circumference
A measurement used to assess obesity-related risk, with standard guidelines for men and women.
Set-point theory
The idea that body fat content is genetically predetermined and regulated by the body.
Portion Distortion
The phenomenon of larger portion sizes leading to increased energy intake.
Binge-Eating Disorder (BED)
An eating disorder characterized by recurrent episodes of eating large quantities of food in a short time.
Anorexia Nervosa
A psychological disorder characterized by self-imposed starvation and an intense fear of gaining weight.
Bulimia Nervosa
An eating disorder marked by cycles of binge eating followed by purging.
Caloric deficit
A state in which one consumes fewer calories than are expended, resulting in weight loss.

Inherited traits that affect body weight, including metabolic rate and hormone production.
