Vocabulary terms and definitions related to the political process, including electoral systems, voting participation, and party structures.

Apathy

A lack interest, do not care

Congressional Representation

Combination of U.S. Senators and U.S. Representatives for each state

Elector

A person selected to vote in Presidential elections

Electoral College

A group of people named by each state legislature that casts the official vote for the President and Vice President

Electorate

All the people who are allowed (eligible) to vote

Nominate

To officially suggest or name someone to run for a job, to be a candidate in an election, or to receive an award

Platform

Political party’s beliefs, principles and positions on election issues.

Political Party

A group of people who share similar ideas about how the government should be run and work together to get their members elected to office

Third Party

A party that challenges the two major parties
