Tone
How the author feels about the topic they are writing about.
Mood
How the writing makes the reader feel when reading.
Haiku
A type of poem that has 3 lines, 17 total syllables (5, 7, 5), and is usually about nature.
Limerick
A type of poem that has 5 lines, is usually funny or silly, and has an AABBA rhyme scheme.
Ballad
A type of poem that has a refrain (chorus), tells a story, has rhyme, and is songlike.
Free Verse
A type of poem that has no rules.
Repetition
Repeated use of sounds, words, or ideas for effect or emphasis.
Rhyme
Recurring similar sounds at the end of lines
Rhyme Scheme
Pattern of rhyme in a poem, represented by letters in alphabetical order
Rhythm
The beat of the poem.
Stanza
A group of lines within a larger poem, set off by a space (like a paragraph).
Refrain
A repeated stanza (like a chorus).
