This person became governor of Ottomans and began reforms in Egypt. He changed the military like Europe’s, taxed the peasants increasingly high, controlled cotton production, and made textile factories for armaments in Cairo. He was a great ruler for his vision of industry
Commodore Matthew Perry
This guy led a naval squad to ask for trade with Japan. Faced with the power of his warships, Japan gave in and also to other states
Meiji Restoration
The arrival of Perry, the Opium Wars effect on China, and the fear of not being able to defend caused Japan to go through this process.
Meiji Reforms
These included the abolishment of feudalism, establishment of constitutional monarchy, equality and abolishment of cruel punishment, new navy, school system, railroads and roads, and subsidized industrialization. They also increased tax in agriculture
Private Investments in Japan
Once new industries flourished, they were sold to zaibatsu, who were organizations of families businesses. Attracting investors encouraged innovation in tech, like the carpenter founding a company that made an automatic loom
