ex of opening phase in korean culture is asking “are your children growing well?” and someone would respond “yes (they are), thanks to you”.

here the speaker isnt actually saying the kids are growing because of that person. Instead, it’s a respectful way of responding to someone who showed concern.

the cultural meaning communicates something like “thank you for asking”. so the response is phatic and polite rather than literal
