Poem begins on a very negative note. The landscape appears to be all too much for her. She seems overwhelmed by the excessive scenery
There are too many waterfalls here
Feeling of sadness ( negative )
-For if those streaks, those mile-long, shiny, tear stains
Uncomfortable out of her home environment; the grass is always greener on the other side? Should she have remained an armchair traveller?
Should we have stayed at home and though of here?
She asks why, as a race, can we never be happy with what we have? She wonders why we always want more or want what we cannot have
Oh, must we dream our dreams and have them too
She lists all the things that would have been a pity not to experience is she had stayed at home
But surely it would have been a pity
She concludes that the adventure was worth it; one could never encounter such a magical experience at home
Then a sudden golden silence
Envoy, reveals that she feels a need to travel as she does not have a home so she is in search for one
The choice is never wide and never free. And here, or there…No. Should we have stayed at home, wherever that may be
