Don’t like each other. Capitalist America vs. Communist Russia. Space race and arms race. They tried to demonstrate their power through these things. It ended in the early 90s.

Explain what caused the decline of the Soviet Union.

1. failed invasion of Afghanistan- a lot of wasted money, lives, and civilians lost motivation to keep living in the Soviet Union.
2. Bad economy- they had closed trade and there was rampant famine. They got out money’d by Raegan’s Star Wars arms race.
3. Gorbachov- enacted policies that didn’t work, like making more stuff legal and more liberal. The people liked this, and eventually demanded their freedom.
