1
New cards

Area

The space inside a two-dimensional figure, which is expressed in square units.

2
New cards

Equivalent ratio

Two ratios are equivalent if you can multiply each of the values in the first ratio by the same number to get the values in the second ratio; for example, 3:23:2 is equivalent to 6:46:4 because 3×2=63 \times 2 = 6 and 2×2=42 \times 2 = 4.

3
New cards

Proportional (relationship)

A relationship where you can multiply the values for one variable by the same number to get the values for the other variable; its graph is a straight line passing through the origin, (0,0)(0, 0).

4
New cards

Scale

A specification that tells us how the actual measurements of an object are represented in a drawing, such as 11 inch on a drawing representing 88 feet in the actual room.

5
New cards

Scaled copy

A copy of an image that may change in size but always maintains the shape and angle measurements of the original by multiplying every length in the original figure by the same number.

6
New cards

Scale drawing

A two-dimensional representation of an actual object or place, like floor plans and maps, where all measurements correspond to the measurements of the actual object by the same scale.

7
New cards

Scale factor

The number that every length of the original shape is multiplied by to produce the scaled copy, such as the scale factor from ABCDABCD to ABCDA'B'C'D' being 22.
