St. Augustine
The saint who stated, "Our Hearts are Restless Until They Rest in Thee, O Lord."
Intellect
The human faculty that seeks the Perfect Knowledge of Truth.
Will
The human faculty that seeks to possess the Perfect Good.
God's grace
Allows humans to share in God's knowledge and love of Himself.
Perfect Happiness
A state found only in heaven, whereas only an imperfect happiness can be achieved on earth.
Temporal goods
Acquisitions including wealth, fame, power, and pleasure that Aquinas teaches are often mistaken for the ultimate end.
Level 1 Happiness
Described by Father Spitzer as Temporal Pleasure or Instant Gratification.
Level 2 Happiness
Described by Father Spitzer as Ego or Achievements.
Level 3 Happiness
Described by Father Spitzer as Contribution or "Making a Difference."
Level 4 Happiness
Transcendent Happiness (e.g., Peace, Justice, Truth, Love, Home/Belonging) which is the longest-lasting and affects the whole person, both body and soul.
Redemptive Suffering
The concept that there is meaning in suffering; it is allowed for a greater good and allows one to unite their suffering with Christ.
Salvific work of God
The work of salvation that humans have the dignity to share in by uniting their suffering with Christ.
Death
The separation of the body and soul.
Particular Judgment
The judgment that occurs at the time of one's own death.
Last Judgment
The judgment occurring at the end of time when all bodies will be resurrected and all people will receive their judgment.
