Rate of reaction
The speed at which reactants are used up or products are formed.
Collision theory
Particles must collide with enough energy and in the correct orientation for a reaction to occur.
Catalyst
A substance that speeds up a reaction by lowering activation energy and is not used up.
Dynamic equilibrium
When forward and backward reactions occur at the same rate in a closed system.
Crude oil
A finite resource consisting of a mixture of hydrocarbons.
Hydrocarbon
A compound containing only hydrogen and carbon atoms.
Alkene
An unsaturated hydrocarbon containing a carbon-carbon double bond.
Test for hydrogen
A lit splint produces a squeaky pop.
Test for oxygen
A glowing splint relights.
Test for carbon dioxide
Limewater turns cloudy.
