Backflow
The flowing back of used, contaminated or polluted water from a plumbing fixture or vessel into a water supply due to a negative pressure.

Catch Basin
Provided when there is no sewer within a reasonable distance from plumbing fixtures.
Viscosity
It refers to the thickness of water.
Percolation
The process of rainwater being filtered by the soil where it eventually reaches the water table.

A long perforated steel tube that is driven into the soil.
Bored Well
A well constructed using an earth auger with a well-casing pipe.
Floor Drains
An example of a plumbing fixture.
Wash Down
The least expensive type of water closet, which is susceptible to staining.
Siphon Vortex
A type of water closet with a swirling flush action, most efficient but also most expensive.
Close Coupled
A common type of water closet with a separate flush tank attached to the bowl.
Flush Valve
Used for very common toilet usage in public buildings with high turnover.
Handheld Bidet
Most common type of bidet in the Philippines, installed on the wall near the water closet.
Plumbing Appurtenance
Manufactured device or assembly serving as an adjunct to the piping system.
Water Heaters
Not considered as Plumbing Appurtenance.
uPVC
A pipe commonly used for cold water supply lines, made rigid by the omission of plasticizers.
cPVC
A flexible pipe that can withstand higher temperatures.
PPR
Widely used in high pressure plumbing systems for cold and hot water.
HDPE
A thermoplastic suitable for high pressure pipelines and industrial applications.
Unplasticized Polyvinyl Chloride

Polypropylene Random

High Density Polyethylene

Type K
The heaviest and thickest type of copper pipe suitable for underground and main.
Nipple
A short piece of pipe threaded at both ends used to join fittings.
Bushing
A pipe fitting that reduces the size of the opening to receive a different size pipe.
Check Valve
A valve that automatically closes to prevent reverse flow of liquid or gas.
Float Valve
An automatic valve controlled by a float, often used in water tanks.
Cement Weld
A pipe joining method used in PPR and HDPE pipes.
Rotary Pipe Cutter
A pipe cutting tool used for pipes with a large diameter.
Foot Valve
A non-return valve that prevents backward flow of water when a pump is off.
Plumbing Device
A device intended to perform a special plumbing function, dependent on activated components.
Reverse Osmosis
The movement of liquid through a semipermeable membrane from a concentrated to a dilute solution.
