Ovary
Provide storage for the ovum (eggs), allow maturation of the ovum, and produce sex hormones (estrogen, progesterone, and androgens).
Fallopian Tubes
Allow passage of ovum toward uterus and passage of sperm from uterus.
Fimbria
Guides a mature ovum when it is released from an ovary into a Fallopian tube.
Skene’s Glands
Area of firm tissue towards the front wall of the vagina that responds to pressure, sometimes producing fluid.
Vulva
Protects the opening of the urethra and vagina, and provides sensation as it contains many nerve endings.
Clitoris
Provides sensation due to many nerve endings; visible part is about .25-.5 inches long.
Uterus
Houses and protects embryo/fetus/baby, allows nutrient & waste exchange during pregnancy.
Cervix
Bottom section of the uterus that produces fluids to help sperm travel.
Vagina
Allows passage of sperm, cleanses itself, and provides sensation.
Hymen
Membrane that partly covers the vaginal opening and may stretch during certain activities.
Ovum
Also called 'egg cell'; carries genetic information and can fertilize with sperm.
Penis
Allows passage of urine and semen, providing sensation due to many nerve endings.
Foreskin
Protects the glans of the penis and provides sensation.
Scrotum
Muscular sac that holds the testes and regulates their temperature.
Testes (Testicles)
Produces sperm and sex hormones.
Epididymis
Allows maturation of sperm.
Spermatzoa (Sperm)
Cells from a man that carry genetic material for fertilization.
Spermatic Cords
Suspends the testes and supplies blood to them.
Vas Deferens
Provides storage for sperm and allows passage of sperm.
Seminal Vesicles
Contributes fructose to semen for nourishing sperm.
Semen
Helps sperm live longer and contains hundreds of millions of sperm.
Prostate Gland
Produces most of the fluid that makes up semen.
Cowper’s Gland
Produces pre-ejaculatory fluid that cleans the urethra.
