Alveolar surface area
The estimated area of the lungs if spread out, which would cover about 80m2.
Oxygen diffusion timeline
The estimated time (3years) it would take for a molecule of oxygen to travel from the lungs to the toes if it moved only by diffusion.
Haemoglobin
The respiratory pigment in humans responsible for the efficient exchange and transport of oxygen.
Blood
A fluid connective tissue consisting of a fluid medium called plasma in which cells are suspended.
Plasma
The fluid medium of blood that transports food, carbon dioxide, and nitrogenous wastes in dissolved form.
Red blood corpuscles
The specific cells in the blood responsible for the carriage of oxygen.
Transportation system requirements
