Democratic
people vote MPs into HoC, MPs represent the public, laws approved by public, can re-elect govt.
Challenge: Hereditary peers in HoL, may not know a lot since title was inherited from birth - undemocratic
Thorough
multiple stages (5 reading stages in both houses), allows for range of opinions, second reading allows for debate & discussion, committee stage allows for amendments to be suggested, report stage (if amendments made) allows for those amendments to be discussed
Challenge: Very time consuming due to large amount of discussion
Well debated
second reading allows for debate & discussion, committee stage allows for examining bill in detail, so lots of discussion to suggest amendments, report stage - amendments debated and voted on by full house, third reading - final vote on bill, 6 MPs can request further debate for final bill.
Challenge: May cause disagreements in HoC and HoL, may cause parliamentary ping-pong if disagree on amendments
Quick decision making
in times of emergency, law can be debated and enacted quickly - Corona Virus Act 2020
Challenge: By making law, there is room for mistakes
