Emollient
Oily substance that softens or soothes irritated skin.
Crème
Emulsion of oil and water.
Ointment
Emulsion in which the amount of oil exceeds the amount of water, making it more solid.
Lotion
Liquid suspension of solid ingredients.
Astringent
Used for drying effect, particularly on exudative lesions.
Powder
Dry, absorbent substance that may prevent moisture but not effective if moisture is already present.
Paste
Semi-solid substance made from powder.
Patches
Topical form used for systemic purposes.
