Fences

Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT)
An international security initiative established by the United States Bureau of Customs and Border Protection (CBP) as a voluntary system whose members benefit from reduced inspections and lower costs.
Free and Secure Trade (FAST)
A trade initiative between the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Container Security Initiative (CSI)
An initiative whose main goal is to ensure containers entering U.S. ports are scanned and deemed safe before departure.
Superfund
The common name for the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA).
Hazardous material (hazmat)
A substance defined by the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) as being capable of posing an unreasonable risk to health, safety, and property when transported in commerce.
Open Docks
The least expensive dock type which consists of a platform extending from the exterior building wall.
Throughput
A key consideration in facility design referring to the volume of goods expected to move through a warehouse.
Enclosed Docks
A dock type described as a large garage that provides the most security from theft and protection from weather.
