a quantative measure of a population, measuring a thing that is easy to observe and assumed to be related to population size, good to measure relative changes

bio carrying capacity

maximum population of a species that a specific ecosystem can support over long periods of time.

Cultural carrying capacity:

maximum population level of a species with which the human population can compatibly coexist with or tolerate. (depends on animal’s tolerance for humans)

Harvest:

the regulated removal of a certain number of individuals from a population.

limit harvest:

• season lengths (how long the harvest season will be)

• daily and seasonal bag limits (how many may be harvested)

• sex or age limitations (what sex or how old the individuals harvested can be)

• limited entry (limit the # of access sites or the # of participants)

• timing of the season (what time of year will the harvest take place)

• equipment restrictions (what type of equipment can be used)

• size restrictions (what size harvested individuals have to be)
