Khilafat
The institution of succession in Islam, where the Khalifa is the successor to a prophet and responsible for guiding the community.
Zakat
One of the Five Pillars of Islam, a form of almsgiving that purifies the soul and is obligatory for Muslims with certain wealth.
Sadaqatul Fitr
Obligatory charity given before Eid al-Fitr to ensure the needy can celebrate the festival.
Hadith
Recorded sayings and traditions of the Prophet Muhammad, which serve as guidance for Muslims.
Ummah
The global community of Muslims bound together by faith.
Ramadan
The ninth month of the Islamic calendar, observed by fasting from dawn to dusk.
Salat
Islamic ritual prayer performed five times a day.
Surah
Chapters of the Qur'an, which are varying in length and cover different themes.
Eid ul Fitr
A festival celebrated at the end of Ramadan marking the conclusion of fasting.
Eid ul Adha
A festival commemorating the willingness of Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God.
Hajj
The pilgrimage to Mecca, which is a religious obligation for Muslims who are physically and financially able to undertake it at least once in their lifetime.
Sadaqa
Voluntary charity given by Muslims to help those in need.
Khadim
Members of the Majlis Khuddamul Ahmadiyya, a youth auxiliary of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.
Nasir
Members of Majlis Ansarullah, an auxiliary organization for men over 40 years in the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.
Fitrana
A form of charity paid before Eid to help the poor celebrate the festival.
Dua e Qunoot
A special supplication made during prayers, seeking help and guidance from Allah.
Al-Tarteel
A method of teaching correct pronunciation of Arabic letters when reciting the Qur'an.
Hadrat
An honorific used before the names of persons of reverence, often meaning 'His Holiness'.
Ameen
An Arabic word meaning 'O Allah, accept (our prayers),' used at the end of supplications.
Hadith: Seek Knowledge
A saying of the Holy Prophet stating that seeking knowledge is obligatory upon every Muslim man and woman.
Khadija
The first wife of Prophet Muhammad, who provided him emotional and financial support during the early years of his prophethood.
Syahadat
The Islamic declaration of faith stating that there is no god but Allah and Muhammad is His messenger.
