Cell
The smallest unit of a living thing
Photosynthesis
Conversion of light energy, H2O, and CO2 to produce glucose, an organic chemical compound which nourishes plants
Nucleus
Control center of the cell and contains deuxyribonucleic acid ( DNA )
Cell membrane
A cellular structure which controls what substances can leave or enter the cell
Mitochondria
Powerhouse of the cell; releases energy from food
Cytoplasm
A jelly-like substance where cell activities are done
Cell wall
Only found in plants, supports and protects the cell
Chloroplasts
Contains chlorophyll, a green pigment used to absorb solar energy, and is where photosynthesis happens
Vacuole
Stores water, food, and waste
