4.1 Sampling Methods

Only the terms that I am not 100% comfortable with

Census

A collection of data from every individual in the population

Simple Random Sample

Like drawing names from a hat—everyone has an equal shot

Stratified Random Sample

Selects a sample by splitting the population into groups then taking an SRS of each group (ex splitting Stats class into juniors and seniors)

Cluster Random Sample

Selects a sample by putting groups into clusters and randomly selecting several clusters. Examine each individual in the selected clusters

Systematic Random Sample

Select a sample by randomly choosing a starting number then look ash every nth (you choose the number) individual after that

Undercoverage

Some members of the population are less likely to be chosen/cannot be chosen in the sample

Response Bias
