What is the generator effect
The induction of a potential difference(and current if there’s a complete circuit ) in a wire which is experiencing a change in magnetic field
What will happen to the potential difference if a wire stops moving in presence of magnetic field
The potential difference disappears . This is because it is the change in the magnetic field that the wire experiences as it moves through it that creates a potential difference- so if it’s not moving then there won’t be a p.d
What happens to the potential difference of a wire when the wire changes direction(up or down -perpendicular to magnetic field)
The direction of the potential difference swaps each time we change direction of wire(so positive and negative ends keep switching)
What happens if the ends of the wire is joined together to create a complete circuit
The induced potential difference would generate a current (bc electrons are able to flow around the circuit)
What happens if the wire is still and the magnets move up and down
The direction of the potential difference swaps each time - bc the wire is still experiencing a change in magnetic field
What will happen if you move a wire back and forth(parallel to magnetic field )
There won’t be any induced potential difference or current , because the wire isn’t experiencing a change in magnetic field
What are different ways to change the size of the induced potential difference
1- change the strength of the magnetic field (if u use stronger magnets -you would have a stronger magnetic field -so larger potential difference
2- move wire or magnet more quickly (the faster they move the faster the magnetic field will change so a bigger potential difference)
3-shape wire into coil-so has multiple turns (more turns - the bigger the induced potential difference will be )
Summery
When a wire experiences a change in magnetic field, a potential difference will be induced across a wire .
And if the ends are connected to create complete circuit current will flow around the circuit
IMP NOTE
the movement of magnetic field relative to coil induces a potential difference in a coil and bc circuit is complete this generates a current
What happens if you change the direction of magnet in complete circuit
It changes the direction of current
What happens if you swap the poles of magnet in a complete circuit
It Changes the direction of current
