Acromioclavicular joint
The joint between the acromion of the scapula and the clavicle.
Sternoclavicular joint
The joint connecting the sternum and the clavicle.
Glenohumeral joint
The ball-and-socket joint between the glenoid cavity of the scapula and the head of the humerus.
Scapulothoracic joint
The anatomical joint formed by the scapula and the thoracic rib cage.
Protraction
Movement of the scapula away from the spine.
Retraction
Movement of the scapula towards the spine.
Elevation
Movement of the scapula upwards.
Depression
Movement of the scapula downwards.
Horizontal abduction
Movement in which the arm moves away from the midline in a horizontal plane.
Horizontal adduction
Movement in which the arm moves towards the midline in a horizontal plane.
Osteokinematics
The study of gross movements of bones at joint surfaces.
Artrocinematics
The study of the movements occurring within the joint.
Circumduction
Circular movement at a joint involving flexion, extension, abduction, and adduction.
