How do I find the area of a shape?
MATCH: Look at the shape and pick the right formula from my sheet.
CLEAN: Make sure all your numbers are in the same units (e.g., all meters). If the problem gives you a diameter, cut it in half to get the radius first.
SOLVE: Plug your "cleaned" numbers into the formula and calculate.
What is the Area formula for a Circle
Area = (Radius x Radius) x 3.14
3.14 is the "Circle Multiplier."
r is the radius (distance from the center to the edge).
r * r means multiply the radius by itself.
Important: If the problem gives you the DIAMETER (the distance all the way across), divide it by 2 first to get the radius.
What is the Area logic for any boxy shape (Square, Rectangle, etc.)?
Area = Length x Width
Logic: It's just a grid. How many squares fit across? How many rows are there? Multiply those two numbers.
If it's a square: The length and width are the same number. Just multiply the side by itself!
Finding Radius from Area
(Area ÷ π) = [Result] → then hit √ = Answer
How do I scale an area (e.g., from an Ocean to a Square)?
The "Container x Ratio" Method
New Size = Container x Ratio
The Step-by-Step for your Calculator:
(New Population ÷ Reference Population) × π × Radius × Radius
