Olfactory Nerve
Sensory: for special sense of smell
Optic Nerve
Sensory: for special sense of vision
Oculomotor Nerve
Motor: to eye muscles and upper eyelid
Parasynthetic: to schincter pupillae and the ciliary muscle of the lens
Trochlear Nerve
Motor: to an eye muscle
Trigeminal Nerve- Opthalmic Branch
Sensory: from scalp, forehead, nose, upper eyelid, and cornea
Trigeminal Nerve- Maxillary Branch
Sensory: from palate, upper jaw, upper teeth and gums, nasopharynx, nasal cavity, skin, mucous membranes of the cheek, lower eyelid, and upper lip
Trigeminal Nerve- Mandibular Branch
Sensory: from lower jaw, lower teeth and gums, anterior 2/3 of tongue, mucous membrane of cheek, lower lip, skin of cheek and chin, auricle, and temporal region.
Motor: to mastification muscles, temporalis, lateral, and medial, soft palate, throat, and middle ear.
Abducens Nerve
Motor: to an eye muscle
facial Nerve
Sensory: to special sense of taste on anterior 2/3 of tongue.
Motor: to facial muscles, throat, and middle ear.
Parasympathetic: to submandibular and sublingual salivary glands, lacriminal gland, and glands in the nasal cavity and palate.
Vestibulocochlear Nerve
Sensory: for special sense of hearing and balance
Glossopharyngeal
Sensory: for special sense of taste on posterior 1/3 of tongue; sensory from pharynx, palatine tonsils, posterior 1/3 of tongue, middle ear, carotid sinus, and carotid body.
Motor: to pharyngeal muscle
Parasympathetic: to parotid salivary gland, glands of the posterior 1/3 of tongue.
Vagus Nerve
Sensory: from inferior pharynx, larynx, thoracic and abdominal organs, and special sense of taste from posterior tongue.
Nervous: to soft palate, pharynx, intrinsic laryngeal muscles, and an extrinsic tongue muscle.
Parasynthetic: to thoracic and abdominal viscera
Accessory Nerve
Motor: to sternocleidomastoid and trapezius
Hypoglossal Nerve
Motor: to intrinsic and extrinsic tongue muscles and throat muscles
