How did the Welsh Rebellion Begin? When did this happen?
In 1400, Glyndwr’s land was stolen by Lord Grey of Ruthin, an English noble.
Owain takes this dispute to parliament but they refuse to give him back his land because of his status as a Welsh man.
How did Glyndwr respond to his land being stolen?
Glyndwr and a small army he had accumulated attacked and burnt down the town of Ruthin.
What did the rebellion at Glyndyfrdwy do for Owain’s status?
It elevated him in the law to the status of a prince.

When was the Battle of Bryn Glas and what happened?
1402, the English were defeated and Glyndwr captured Edmund Mortimer IV, the uncle of the young earl of March and the alternative heir to Richard II.
What happened during Edmund Mortimer’s captivity?
He switched loyalties to the Welsh Rebels, publicly proclaiming that his nephew was the rightful King of England and not Henry IV.
Mortimer also marries Glyndwr daughter.
What land does Glyndwr take in 1404?
Glyndwr takes castles Aberwrystwth and Harlech and is in control of most of Wales

The French gave military support to the Welsh after seeing their success.
In the summer of 1405 a French army landed in Wales and joined the Welsh army.
How large was the Franco-Welsh army?
13,000 men in total of which the French provided 2,500.
What was the result of the France-welsh army?
They invaded England and confronted the royal army, led by Henry IV, north of Worcester.
However the armies did not engage in battle and after a week the Welsh and their French allies retreated back to Wales.
What was the Tripartite Indenture?
An agreement signed by Mortimer, Percy and Glyndwr to partition England and establish an independent Wales. Signed in 1405.
How do the tides of the rebellion change in 1405?
Prince Henry’s forces begin to recapture castles
How does the Welsh rebellion subside in 1408?
Henry retakes Conwy and Harlech and rebellion subsides after Glyndwr disappears without a trace.
Who did Henry leave in nominal charge of securing Wales while he was in the north?
He left his 13-year old son, the Prince of Wales, in nominal charge with Sir Henry Percy (Known as ‘Hotspur’) as the real military commander.
What statutes did Parliament enact against Wales in September 1402?
Forbidding the sale of food supplies or armour to Wales
