Professionalism
The conduct, aims, or qualities that characterize or mark a profession or professional person.
Accountability
Being able to accept responsibility for one's actions and being answerable to someone for something one has done.
College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
The self-regulating body for the nursing profession in Ontario that protects the public and sets standards for nursing practice.
Canadian Nurses Association (CNA)
A national professional voice of registered nurses in Canada that advocates for the interests of nurses and the health system.
Negligence
A breach of the standard of care owed to a patient that results in their injury.
Duty of care
The legal obligation to avoid acts or omissions that could likely cause harm to others.
Tort Law
A branch of civil law that deals with civil wrongs and allows for compensation for damages.
Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA)
Legislation that governs health care information privacy in Ontario and defines clients' rights regarding their personal health information.
