Curious Incident Intro

Curious incident of a dog in the nighttime (Curious) was produced by Frantic Assembly. In this play, Christopher (a boy with autism) discovers (after his own investigation) his father killed his neighbour's dog. He then decides to travel to London to find his Mother. This play was intended to portray Christopher's autism so more people understand the struggles of autism in the world and everyday life.

Originally this play was first presented in the national theatre in the round, in 2012. I would take inspiration from the original staging conditions of maximalism which portrayed Christopher's overcomplicated mind. My wish is for the audience to truly understand the hardships, and how everyday tasks, like traveling on a train, can be very different to how neurotypical people experience them.

Hedda Intro

Hedda Gablar by Henrik Ibsen, was originally performed in 1891 in Munich on a proscenium arch stage. This play is a tragedy and when it was first performed, critics said it was a ‘hideous display of pessimism’ due to its themes of scandal, freedom for women and gender roles. Ibsen’s intentions for the play were to depict the struggles of women, in the predominantly male, 19th century. This play follows the short period of life after marriage, where she experiences entrapment and pushes the boundaries of 19th century expectations of women.

She goes on to insult George Tesman’s slippers showing her dissatisfaction in the marriage. In the second extract, page 100-105, Judge Brack knows Hedda gave Lovborg the pistol he used to kill himself, and is blackmailing Hedda as a means to gain control.
