reality effect
Untheorized descriptive "residues" of the text produce effects of reality through their dissembling of the tripartite (signifier, signified, referent) sign. Essentially, little seemingly insignificant details make a world feel real, and therefore should be included. Broken vs. complete references.
Durin’s Bane/Balrog
