Calcarine Sulcus
A structure in the brain that is responsible for visual processing.

Cuneus Gyrus
A structure in the brain that is responsible for the visual processing of the inferior visual field.

Lingual Gyrus
A structure in the brain that is responsible for the visual processing of the superior visual field/object and face recognition.

Optic Nerve (CN II)
A cranial nerve that is responsible for transmitting visual information from the retina to the brain.

Optic Tract
An extension of the optic nerve that is responsible for transmitting visual information from the retina to the brain.

Optic Chiasm
A structure in the visual system that allows for one image to be created from both eyes.

Superior Colliculus
A structure in the midbrain that is involved in visual processing and initiates eye movements

Midbrain
A structure in the brain that is the relay system for both visual and hearing information.

Oculomotor Nerve (CN III)
A cranial nerve that controls the superior rectus, inferior rectus, medial rectus, and the inferior oblique.
controls most of the eye movements

Trochlear Nerve (CN IV)
A cranial nerve that controls the superior oblique muscle of the eye.

Abducens Nerve (CN VI)
A cranial nerve that controls the lateral rectus muscle of the eye.

Lateral Geniculate Nucleus (LGN)
A structure in the thalamus that is the relay/processing center for visual information.

Optic Radiations
A structure in the brain that transmits visual information from the LGN to the primary visual cortex.

Primary Visual Cortex
A part of the cortex responsible for processing visual information.

Edinger-Westphal Nucleus (EW)
A structure in the midbrain responsible for pupil constriction and lens accommodation.

Oculomotor Nucleus
A structure in the midbrain responsible for control of the motor functions of the oculomotor nerve.

Trochlear Nucleus
A structure in the midbrain responsible for the control of motor functions of the trochlear nerve.

Abducens Nucleus
A structure in the midbrain responsible for the control of motor functions of the abducens nerve.
