Ratio
A comparison of two quantities, expressed as a fraction or using a colon (e.g., 2:3 or 2/3).
Rate
A comparison of two quantities with different units (e.g., 60 miles per hour).
Unit Rate
A rate that has a denominator of 1 (e.g., $3 per 1 item).
Proportion
An equation stating that two ratios are equal.
Cross Multiplication
A method for solving proportions, using the equation ab = cd to find an unknown.
Percent
A ratio expressed as a fraction of 100.
Financial Literacy
Understanding and effectively using financial skills, including managing personal budget, savings, and credit.
Rational Numbers
Numbers that can be expressed as a fraction or ratio of two integers.
Mean
The average of a set of numbers, calculated by dividing the sum of the values by the count of values.
Median
The middle value in a data set when the numbers are arranged in order.
Mode
The number that appears most frequently in a data set.
Area
The amount of space inside a shape, calculated for rectangles as length times width and for triangles as ½ times base times height.
Volume
The amount of space occupied by a 3-dimensional object, calculated for rectangular prisms as length times width times height.
Ordered Pair
A pair of numbers used to locate a point on a coordinate plane, formatted as (x, y).
PEMDAS
An acronym to remember the order of operations: Parentheses, Exponents, Multiply/Divide (left to right), Add/Subtract (left to right).
Inverse Operations
Operations that reverse the effect of another operation, used to solve equations.
