What is the theoretical Domains Framework?
It is a framework for behaviour change, based on 33 other theories. It has 14 domains that can influence behaviour. The framework helps to understand barriers and enablers of behaviour change.
What is the Health Belief model?
The health belief model is a model that suggests that people are more likely to change their habits if they perceive that a health change can be achieved, and that they are confident that they can adopt the recommended health action.
What are the 6 parts of the health belief model?
Perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, perceived benefits, perceived barriers, cues to action, self-efficacy.
What is perceived susceptibility?
Perceived susceptibility are the beliefs about the likelihood of getting a disease/condition
What is perceived severity?
Perceived severity refers to beliefs about how serious the condition will be and what the consequences are.
What are perceived benefits?
Perceived benefits are the beliefs about the effectiveness of recommended action.
What are the perceived barriers?
perceived barriers are beliefs about the obstacles that will make the behaviour difficult.
What are the cues to action?
Events or triggers that prompt the behaviour.
What does self-efficacy mean?
the confidence in ones ability to carry out the behaviour.
What are some draw backs to the health belief model?
It assumes that everyone has equal access to information on illness/disease. and that health is the main motivator behind why someone makes decisions.
What is the stages of change model?
is a model that helps people to realise that their current behaviour is a problem. That they believe they will be better off if they change, and that they are capable of change.
What are the 5 stages of the Stages of change model?
Pre-contemplation, contemplation, preparation, action, maintenance.
What does the pre-contemplation stage encapsulate?
during this stage, The client is not yet aware that a behaviour they have is problematic/ in need of change, or unwilling to make any changes.
What does the contemplation stage encapsulate?
During this stage the client acknowledges that there are concerns present, and is considering change in the future, however is uncertain and ambivalent.
What does the preparation stage encapsulate?
During this stage, the client has committed to and is planning to make a change in the near future. The methods are unclear and they are still considering what to do.
What does the action stage encapsulate?
During this stage, the client is actively taking steps to take change, but is not in a stable state
What does the maintenance stage encapsulate?
during this stage, the clien has achieved initial goals, and is now working to maintain their progress and prevent a relapse.
