metals
Metals: elements which lose VE easily.
●good conductors of electricity and heat.
●shiny
●ductile (they can be drawn into thin wires).
●malleable (they can be easily hammered into very thin sheets)

non metal
Non-metals:
●gain electrons in chemical reactions.
●solid, liquid or gas
●poor conductors of both heat and electricity
●not shiny, malleable or ductile

Metalloids
●only partially conduct electricity and heat
●lustrous
neither malleable nor ductile

Group 1 : Alkali metal
•shiny, soft, silvery.
•highly reactive, in air and water.
•readily lose their SINGLE outermost electron.
As u go down the PT, the elements:
•become more reactive

Group 2: Alkaline Earth Metals
•Shiny, silvery-white.
Somewhat reactive metals
Group 2: Alkaline Earth metals
As you go down, the elements:
●readily lose their two outermost electrons.
●become more reactive

Group 18: The Noble Gases
The noble gases are all chemically unreactive (inert)
•Neither lose nor gain electrons•Are colourless
Exist as single atoms
