Hemostasis
The process of stopping bleeding, involving vascular spasm, platelet plug formation, and coagulation.
Vascular spasm
The constriction of a blood vessel following damage, reducing blood flow to the site of injury.
Platelet plug formation
The process where platelets adhere to the damaged vessel wall and aggregate to form a temporary plug.
Coagulation
A series of enzymatic reactions that lead to the formation of fibrin threads, which strengthen the platelet plug.
Fibrin threads
Proteins that form a mesh in the coagulation phase to stabilize the platelet plug.
