Steps of hemostasis

  • Vascular spasm

    • Damage to blood vessel causes it to constrict, reducing blood flow.

  • Platelet plug formation

    • Platelets adhere to the damaged vessel wall and aggregate, forming a temporary plug.

  • Coagulation

    • A cascade of enzymatic reactions results in the formation of fibrin threads, which strengthen the platelet plug.
