Discuss the characteristics of the members of Congress
Members of Congress are elected officials who represent the people of their districts or states. They usually have backgrounds in law, business, or public service and tend to have higher levels of education. Many are experienced in politics and work on making laws, debating issues, and helping their constituents.
Explain the meaning of ex post facto laws, bills of attainder, and writ of habeas corpus
Ex post facto laws punish people for things that were legal when they did them. Bills of attainder punish people without a trial. Habeas corpus lets a person ask a judge if they are being held in jail legally.
Describe implied and expressed powers
Expressed powers are powers that are clearly written in the Constitution. Implied powers are not written directly but are understood from what is needed to carry out those written powers. Both help the government do its job.
