What is meant by the term recession? During what period did the Caribbean feel its effects the most?

A period of ‘recession’ is a time during which there is negative economic growth. It is signalled by a falling GDP or growth below 2% for a year. This recession was felt in the Caribbean especially during 2008-2009.
