Camera Angle
The physical relationship between camera and subject
Low Angle
camera is low titled up toward the subject; the feeling is one of powerfulness of the subject
High Angle
the camera is high, titled down towards the subject; the feeling is one of powerlessness of the subject
Normal shot
camera titled neither up nor down, and the tilt (camera is titled off it horizontal and vertical axes.)
Camera Movement
any motion of a camera during a shot (pan. tilt, dolly (tracking) craining.
Pan
a stationary camera that moves only on its axis
Dolly (tracking)
a shot made with the camera moving with a subject or w/o a subject
Close-up
a shot in which the image of the subject or its most important part fills most of the frame
Long Shot
a shot that shows a long distance between the camera and its subject
Long Take
a single shot that lasts for a relatively lengthy period of time before its juxtaposed with another shot
Medium Shot
a shot that shows part of a person or object (usually head, shoulders, chest, and hand gestures.)
Composition
the distribution, balance, and general relationship of masses and degrees of light and shade, line, and color within a picture area
Deep-focus cinematography
cinematography that renders objects in focus at both near and far distances
Rack-focus cinematography
a shift in focus so that either the background or the foreground is in focus and the other blurred; then, a reversal is achieved whereby what was once blurred is then clear and what was once clear is then blurred
Establishing shot
a long shot that shows the location of the ensuing action but may be a close-up or even a medium shot which has some sign or other clue that identifies the location
POV shot
a shot made from a camera position close to the line of sight of a performer who is to be watching the action shown in the POV shot.
